Fried Food

Gone are the days of organic. Here are the days of fried. I cannot tell you the last time I went to a restaurant and something green was served. Seriously. French fries, grits, corn, black-eyed peas. This place would drive a healthy person nuts. I am trying to adjust, but my waist line is finding it difficult.

The worst thing about the fried food is after you eat it. Because of the humidity and heat, you literally sweat grease. And you can smell it.

Lovely.

Holy sh*t its hot.

Ok, so. Again, let me apologize for not keeping up with this blog. Who knew it would be harder that I thought?! Thank you for forgiving me. Now on to the weather that is not forgiving.

At 8am, it was already 89 degrees outside. Are you kidding?! No. Every morning while watching the TODAY Show, the weather man comes on and tells me something that I already know: "It is going to be hot today." Thanks. Why don't we pay the weather man per week? That was, he can tell us that is is going to be incredibly hot all week, and I won't have to get upset with him every morning. I'm just sayin'.

Tornadoes

Apologies apologies. I cannot believe it has been so long since I have written. I promise to be more diligent in my efforts to keep a blog.

About a week ago, I took a day trip to Gulfport, MS. We have an office there, and it is located on the coast of MS. While it was a B-E-A-UTIFUL drive down there, it was incredible to see the area. Hurricane Katrina hit this area in 2005, and while there were no real signs of a hurricane.... well, that's the thing. There were no real signs of much. I cannot tell you how many pieces of land I saw with steps leading up to a concrete slab, where a house once stood. One of the attorneys in our office had managed to escape his home through the attic with an axe. While I had seen the footage on the news, it was very humbling to see the after effects first hand.

Recently a tornado tore through MS, and Rich and I were driving through an area that had been hit. There was a boat lodged in the side of a house, and the house next to it was lucky enough to only have the roof blown off.

I told Rich we should definitely get insurance in case we find ourselves in the aftermath. His response, "If we loose it all, we loose it all. We'll probably be dead anyway." Nice. I feel so much safer. Thanks honey.

Other than that, I have enjoyed some of my first big thunder and lightning storms. Holy moly. It makes your heart skip a beat and the vibrations rock your whole body. Seriously. Ask Sterling, my cat. If you can find him. Check the back of the master closet.

I promise to post some pictures as soon as I figure out how. Until then, take care of yourself and each other...

Naked Girls on the Plaza

Hello again! Apologies for my absence. I got "locked" out of my blog. I am not as technologically savvy as I thought I was. So, yes, let's get to it. The naked girls on the plaza. I work in downtown Jackson, MS in a swanky new building. Very nice. Yes. Some demonstrators from PETA were outside reminding people to be conscious of his or her food choices. So, they had a mock shower "box" that they stood in, pretending to shower. The writing on the side of the prop read "Be conscious of what you eat. Go vegan". WTF. Why are they pretending to shower naked?! And they want people to be vegan?! I don't get it. I need to eat again because I just threw up, thank you very much. Anyway, very interesting.

This weekend we broke in the new house by having a birthday party for Rich. He had a bunch of his coaching friends over and we BBQ'd for the very first time. Complete with beer pong. It was a great time, especially considering that this was our first time BBQing. Think huge grill, big flames, and hamburgers sneaking through the grill rack to the bottom. Talk about a good time.

There were a bunch of us outside in the backyard chatting when I began to tell everyone how there was this little cute frog outside the other day. My cat, Zee, was so curious and she stood by the window meowing for about 2 hours. "I wonder what other cute critters our out here". Well, what do you know. A SNAKE was in between my flip flops! Kid you not. AHHHHH! I am screaming and running to the patio, while Aaron Pelch, head football coach runs to pick it up! Meanwhile, his wife, who is 7 months pregnant, is screaming to put it down. OMGoodness it was quite a sight to see.

I will promise to keep you more up to date and yes, I will post pictures soon. Just know that life is good in the South, and people are awfully friendly. Sweet tea is WAY better than unsweetened, and just like in CA, young girls idolize guys in big trucks. No matter how big of loser he is.

Take care of each other....

Welcome to my blog!

Well hello there! Welcome to my blog! As promised, I have started this blog so that I could keep in touch with people and share my adventures in Mississippi! (Am I the only person who has to sing the word in order to spell it? Uh huh, I didn't think so.)

Why am I in Mississippi you ask!? Well, my boyfriend took a job at Milsaps College and he asked if I would go with him. Love you see, makes us do crazy things. Yes, I will move with you across the country to a place I have never been, knowing 2 people, in the deep South. I love you, and I happen to love luscious green country side. No more burnt CA hills!

I got a great job at a law firm acting as their Recruiting and Associate Development Coordinator. It is a wonderful opportunity and the people are incredibly friendly. I work 11 miles from home, and my commute does not include standing next to smelly people on BART who have no concept of personal space. I believe we call this an "upgrade".

I arrived last night after a lengthy three day drive. Oh, three days isn't that bad you say!? Did I mention I did it with two cats?! My girl, Zee, was great. She meowed twice every morning, and then went to her carrier and didn't make another sound. Then there was Sterling.... an outdoor cat at heart, he meowed at the sights of the world that he was not able to explore. Yes, this meant most of the time. However, after I discovered his liking to lick Subway Sandwich plastic bags, we survived!

After being very excited to arrive in our new place, I was disappointed to find that it had not been cleaned. Eww. Gross. So, it is with sadness that I must leave you and let the cleaning people in. YAY! I can finally put things away in the cupboard.

Until next time, take care of each other...
